Interfile SA Motorcycle Championship visits Western Cape
Published: 09 March 2010

The Western Cape Killarney circuit will play host to rounds three and four of the 2010 Interfile South African Motorcycle championship next Saturday (March 13).

Judging by the season-opening action at Kyalami three weekends ago, the ever enthusiastic Cape Town fans should be treated to spectacle of the highest order.

Going to Killarney, local hero Lance Isaacs (Bikefin Honda) and defending South African champion Sheridan Morais (Emtek Aprilia) are locked on points at the top of the Superbike championship log. The two racers scored a win apiece at Kyalami. Predicting a winner at Killarney would best be left to the brave and the foolish, though Capetonian Isaacs will certainly be the crowd favourite.

On their heels in the title rankings will be factory Honda Fireblade rider Greg Gildenhuys. Gildenhuys battled with teething problems at Kyalami, as did Bikefin Honda team mates Chris Leeson and Dane Hellyer. All three have benefited from seat time since the opening races, and all three will doubtlessly be able to fight for race victories at Killarney.

Suzuki's challenge will be led by Julian Odendaal, who scored useful championship points at Kyalami, and who should do so again on his Mitsubishi Air Suzuki.

Other riders aiming for podium places should include Nicholas Grobler (Jonway Honda), TS Racing Kawasaki riders Glen and Duane Scully, plus youngster John Oliver, on  the Development Honda Fireblade brilliantly at Kyalami.

Veteran Heinrich Rheeder (Pta North Yamaha) currently leads the Masters class for riders over the age of 35 years, with his closest challengers Mark Edwards (Icarus Security Yamaha) and Simon Bezuidenhout (Mechctu Construction Kawasaki).

* After two faultless victories at Kyalami, Ronan Quarmby (Interfile Yamaha) will be the logical favourite to win the Interfile 600 Supersport races at Killarney. He will face a stern challenge from various talented youngsters, led by Dean Vos (VTR Metals Kawasaki), Bikefin Honda riders Brent Harran and Jacques Peskins, Steven Odendaal (Mitsubishi Air Suzuki) and Bjorn Estment (NFB Yamaha).

Veteran Robert Portman should be chasing podium places on his Emtek Triumph, with the British machine making its Killarney racing debut.

Other riders who battled with setup problems at Kyalami and who could provide surprises should include Dylan White (JW White Aluminium Yamaha), Kyalami Honda's Clynton and Eddy Alberts, plus David McFadden (Honda).

Both the Interfile Superbike and Supersport riders will face two 10-lap races at Killarney, with their official qualifying sessions on Saturday morning.
